The Montana Wheat and Barley Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank our Japanese customers for their generous support and guidance over the past 60 years working together with U.S. Wheat.
As the MWBC nears its 50 year anniversary, Montana producers want to reflect on the things that have made wheat the number one industry in the state. The most important and consistent factor has been exceptional export markets. Japan has been the number one destination for Montana wheat year after year, and our customers have also helped to shape the state’s entire public breeding program by offering direction regarding what quality factors are most important for them as end users.
Japan’s relationship with U.S. wheat buyers extends to the first visiting team of millers in 1956. Montana has been growing wheat for generations, but 1956 was a pivotal year in establishing a relationship that has benefitted both the Big Sky state and Japan. Through exchanging dialogue and information, a relationship of trust has been created that has long standing ties and is essential to trade.
Montana prides itself on having the highest quality wheat in the world, and growers want to thank our Japanese customers for recognizing that and for their continued appreciation and insistence of only purchasing the best. We look forward to the next 60 years!
